Forget Being a Leader—Be a Follower (A First Follower)

This past weekend I was lucky enough to participate in TEDx Colorado Springs. That talk is not yet available so in the interim I’d love to have you take a look at one of my favorite TED talks—a mere 3 minutes!—on the importance of being a follower: a first follower.

For those of you have 3 minutes to watch the talk (highly recommended—it’s hilarious) here is the link:http://bit.ly/1w2DaqL

For those of you who would like to be convinced, here are 3 highlights:

“The first follower is an underestimated form of leadership in itself. It takes guts to stand up.”

“If you really care about starting a movement, have the courage to follow and show others how to follow.”

(For leaders) “Remember the importance of nurturing your first few followers as equals— so it’s clearly about the movement, not you.”

I love this. I love—and believe– that there are times when being a follower is a crucial role. Given this, I encourage you—when you find something or someone you believe in—tostand up and follow.
